A unique ministry of pastoral care at First Presbyterian is its network of Care Teams.
The purpose of the ministry is to equip people to help people. The goal of the Care Teams is to provide "intentional, sustained caring for persons who are disabled, disadvantaged, or isolated by disease, age and other conditions. The purpose of the Care Teams is that the care is shared by a group of members so that they only visit the person once a month, or more often if you are able. Some of the needs provided by Care Teams are social, practical (transportation or meals), and spiritual. The Team is a bridge between those who need care and persons who wish to share their gifts and talents doing what they love, when they can, within a proven framework that contains flexibility but also necessary boundaries." (Carolina Care Team Ministry manual, p.1) As Christians we desire to care and show compassion to those in need, all to the Glory of God.
Would you be able to prepare a meal once a month to be taken to a person or family in special circumstances? We are gathering a team of volunteers to serve in this way. Meal Team members would be assigned one week out of the month, and would only be asked to prepare a meal once during that week.
If you would be interested in participating in a class for care team training in preparation to serve on a Care Team or helping with the Meal Team Ministry please contact: Barbara Diller at 799-9062, Ext. 530 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are asking for volunteers to assist as greetrs or cashiers on Wednesdays or Sundays and have created a page for volunteers to sign up for open time slots. Please visit the "Green Apron Brigade" sign up page.
Additionally, the Congregational Outreach Committee of the Session has made available several opportunities for service and ministry in the Columbia area. Please visit the Serve with Local Ministries page for current opportunities.
