Local Missions: Volunteer

God’s people are challenged through the Scriptures to care – for Jesus’ sake – about the communities in which they live.  Old Testament believers who found themselves in exile were told, “…seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you…” (Jeremiah 29:7).  Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14).

The following ministry opportunities are ways we might increasingly care for the welfare of our city.

If you're interested in volunteering with these ministries, please contact Alana Tyler at or call 799-9062 ext. 544.

Ezekiel Ministries

Ezekiel Ministries exists to share the love and truth of Jesus to families in inner-city Columbia by providing tangible help in the areas of education and family literacy. Volunteers are needed:
  • RIGHT NOW: to help faciliate summer programs!
  • to help facilitate their after-school programs which includes helping students in 5k-5th grade with homework, creating crafts, and science experiments.
  • to serve as mentors, being paired with one student and spending (at minimum) an hour a week with them, helping to guide them to right decisions as they grow.
  • to serve as "reading buddies" in the afterschool program, by allowing 5k-4th graders to read aloud to them for 30-45 minutes, once a week or every day.

Foster Care Resource Closet

A Foster Care Resource Closet is being put together on the second floor of Palmer to serve those with foster children. Items being collected include clothing, shoes, equipment, and toys. A detailed list of accepted donations can be found here. Volunteers are needed:

  • to donate items.
  • to organize the donated items into their collective spaces.
  • to volunteer during operating hours to help those shopping.
  • to pray for those who are shopping there.

Donations can be dropped off in the marked box located in the security office in the Palmer Building.

Good News Club

Volunteers are needed to serve during the next cycle of the Good News Club beginning in February. The Good News Club is an opportunity to share the "Good News" in an after-school program at a local Columbia elementary school alongside trained teachers. The Good New Club presents an exciting Bible lesson each week along with songs, Scripture memory, a missions story and review games or other activities focused on the lesson’s theme.

If you are interested in getting involved with any of these opportunities, please contact Alana Tyler at or 799-9062, Ext. 544.
