Grace Presbyterian Church PlantFirst Presbyterian Church in conjunction with Catawba Presbytery is establishing an ARP congregation in the Spears Creek Church Road/Pontiac area of greater Columbia, to be known as Grace Presbyterian Church. A Provisional Session has been established by the Presbytery to help guide the new work. Their first task is to serve as a Search Committee for finding the mission planter. The Provisional Session – made up of four elders from First Presbyterian Church and one from another Columbia area ARP church – are now soliciting names to be considered for this call. Two First Presbyterian Church committees have done preliminary work regarding the starting of a new church. Links to these reports are found below and will provide insight into the church’s motivation and thinking regarding starting a daughter church, reason for choosing this particular area, demographic details of the area, and thoughts on the initial approach that may be taken as the church developer begins his work. The person called to this work should be an ordained pastor, called to church planting, with the combination of gifts and skills to both build and nurture a new, growing flock, including preaching, leading worship,discipleship, and leadership training, and with an aptitude for administration. The individual should have a passion for community outreach through evangelism and evangelism through community outreach. The person should have sufficient ministerial experience – possibly as a church planter. We are looking for the person whose combination of gifts and experience has equipped him to this ministry, in this place, at this time. A distinct feature of this effort will involve the connection between the new work and the mother church - a relationship the church planter will need to nurture. Also, the person needs to be of a Reformed and Presbyterian persuasion and able to be credentialed by the Catawba Presbytery of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

A letter of request for consideration which includes a brief personal narrative, a general description of suitability for the task, and specific reasons for interest in being part of the First Presbyterian Church effort to start a new church. 2. The names of four references, two of whom should be serving pastors. 3. Provide an ARP Data Form or some comparable form. In addition the committee asks that you include answers to a brief church planting questionnaire.
